Our History
New England Life Care, Inc. (NELC) was founded in 1987 and established as a Maine corporation. The primary goal of its founders was to ensure the long term existence of a home infusion therapy/specialty pharmacy provider that reflects its member hospitals’ commitment to clinical excellence, quality and ethics. To better reflect the mission of its member hospitals and serve their respective communities, NELC changed its corporate structure in 1993 to a not-for-profit hospital services cooperative. Since that time NELC’s membership has grown to eighteen hospitals. Our members include northern New England’s most prestigious teaching hospitals.
With facilities in Portland, Maine, Concord, New Hampshire and Woburn, Massachusetts, and a staff that includes ten registered pharmacists, twenty registered nurses and three registered dietitians, NELC provides specialty pharmacy drugs, custom compounded nutritional solutions and associated infusion products and services to nearly seven hundred patients in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. NELC works closely with its members’ physicians and community based nursing agencies in assuring a seamless continuum of care.
NELC’s facilities are licensed as pharmacies and home health agencies in the states of Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. In May of 2005, NELC once again achieved JCAHO Accreditation. This triennial quality award presented by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations continues to validate the high quality care and services provided by NELC.
